What are implant retained dentures?

Implant retained dentures offer an alternative to traditional removable dentures. Implant retained dentures are fixed in the mouth via an implant or set of implants in the jawbone which act as the new ‘roots’ for your prosthetic teeth.

Why should I choose implant retained dentures?

Implant retained dentures are thought by many patients to be much more comfortable than traditional dentures. Because they are fixed in place, there’s also no slippage or movement, which can help maintain the structure of the jaw which is better for your overall oral health.

How long do implant retained dentures last?

Implant retained dentures can last for up to 15 years.

What happens during the treatment for implant retained dentures?

We’ll administer a local anaesthetic before fixing the titanium implants into your jaw. We can also offer IV sedation to any of our patients who feel they need it in order to receive this treatment as comfortably as possible.

Once the implants are fixed in place there’ll be a wait of a few months before we can fit you with your new dentures. This is to give the implants time to fuse with jawbone. At this point we can either fit you with temporary prosthetics, or you can continue to wear your original dentures.

Once enough time has elapsed, you will return to us here at SmileMaker Dental Care where we’ll fit you with your new, permanent dentures.
