A crown fits over the visible part of your tooth, acting as a kind of ‘cap’.
You might need a crown for a variety of reasons, but the most common are to repair chipped, fractured or damaged teeth.
Crowns are usually made of ceramic, metal or a combination of the two. Ceramic crowns offer a much more natural looking finish to the tooth and often blend in almost seamlessly with the rest of the mouth.
If it’s decided that we need to fit you with a crown, it will most likely be done over two appointments with us here at SmileMaker Dental Care. Initially, we will remove any of the weakened or damaged parts of the tooth before taking an impression. This will then be sent off to a lab technician who will make your custom crown for you.
At the second appointment, we’ll give you a local anaesthetic so you won’t experience any pain or discomfort while the crown is being fitted. If you’re nervous about getting this treatment done, please don’t hesitate to talk to us about it. We will always endeavour to make you feel as comfortable and empowered about your dental decisions as possible. We can also provide you with sedation if needed.
Most crowns last for up to 15 years and should be taken care of just as you would the rest of your teeth. This means brushing twice daily for two minutes with a fluoride toothpaste and flossing regularly.
We offer wrinkle correction consultation as part of our range of facial aesthetic treatments.
